No type of flooring material is truly maintenance free, and the same holds true for decorative concrete. Concrete floors are relatively easy to care for when compared with other types of flooring, but they do require regular attention. How much maintenance your floor will need largely depends on the amount of traffic it receives.
Keep in mind that the joints in the design, grout lines or simple cracks and pores will trap dirt. Because of this a simple routine cleaning of dry and damp mopping with an occasional “power wash”
(ACS offers a powerful rotary hot water, contained cleaning system with vacuum extraction) is all that is needed.
Here are some general tips to make your concrete floors as easy to maintain as possible:
- Only use neutral pH cleaning solutions and avoid those “home remedies” like ammonia, citrus, bleach, vinegar or pine cleaners. These can potentially damage the polish, sealer or paint.
- In areas of heavy traffic, such as entrances and foyers, reduce maintenance and wear and tear by using indoor and outdoor floor mats or rugs.
- Clean spills from the floor as quickly as possible so they don't absorb into the surface and cause staining.
