How Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT) Maintenance Works

Every type of floor covering needs regularly scheduled maintenance. Last month I described maintenance for Hardwood floors and that if it wasn’t properly maintained the floor would begin to look “worn and old.” That is the case with any type of floor, especially with commercial flooring with a high volume of foot traffic.

Vinyl Composited Tile, or VCT is flooring commonly ignored, you may think it is maintenance free except for an occasional dry or wet mop. You will probably recognize it right away… Although this is a hard floor, vinyl is soft and porous. As a result, to keep that bright, glossy look, several layers (coats) of wax must be maintained so that it is the wax that captures and contains the dirt, scratches, stains, etc. and not the vinyl… permanently!
