2021 Reopening: Commercial Carpet Cleaning Guide

Over the last several years carpeting has become an unpopular choice as a floor cover. Usually the cost and ability to keep it looking good along with health reasons are the usual complaints leading to this choice. Unfortunately, these reasons are only valid due to poor maintenance as well as the poor communication with the vendor(s). Although these issues occur in the commercial environment, carpet remains a good choice as a floor covering. Actually, commercial carpet is perfect for most commercial facilities and cost is only the start of the benefits.

The carpet in your office is a plastic product (polypropylene called olefin), glued in place onto the subfloor. Although it’s not anything you want in your home, it has all the benefits of carpet, plus it is installed for optimal functioning.

  • Polypropylene is a thermal plastic (300o melting point) and recyclable. Thus your carpet was probably woven from plastic bottles or car batteries… Green!
  • Polypropylene is very durable, but it crushes easily and thus forms traffic lanes easily. Commercial carpet addresses the heavy traffic volume beautifully by doing two things:

1. The fiber is woven in a short profile, so crushing can’t take place. This also provides for easy deep cleaning.

2. The carpet is a glue-down installation so it can’t shift with the traffic and become loose and full of ripples like a padded install.

  • Polypropylene resists staining and is easy to clean. A good encapsulation solution along with regular deep cleaning (every 6-12 months), will keep the carpet looking good. We made our cleaning system encap as well as Green!
  • Offers design flexibility. Whether you’re choosing broadloom or carpet tile (best), carpet is easy to customize in any facility. You can choose from many thousands of carpet styles and colors to create a work environment that reflects your organization’s corporate culture.
  • A healthier environment. Research has consistently shown that carpet actually improves indoor air quality. Unlike smooth floor surfaces that allow dust and other allergens to collect and re-circulate into the breathing zone. Carpeting acts as a trap, what falls to the carpet (dust, pet dander, and many other particles) stays trapped until it is removed through vacuuming. Just remember to empty that sink!
  • Less noise and more productivity. Carpet is significantly more efficient at reducing noise when compared with other flooring options. So everyone from employees to students gets a quieter, less distracting environment where they hear more, concentrate better, and perform their best.
  • Provides warmth and comfort. Carpet provides insulation and thermal resistance (R-value). In colder climates or seasons, it retains warm air longer, providing energy conservation. Carpet creates a comfortable environment in which to work and gives a space a warmer overall feeling.

Your home has 1/10th or 1/100th of the traffic and providing warmth and comfort is the most important benefit. Therefore, what is in your home is largely made of soft nylon fiber and on a foam pad.

Two very different floor coverings, optimized for two very different fiber types, using two very different installations. It only makes sense to optimize the commercial cleaning system to take advantage of the conditions present. The maintenance involved in residential carpet cleaning is more involved than commercial carpet cleaning and because of this, it is about 2/3rd less. Something to appreciate and take care of!
