Just 2 Steps to Coronavirus Cleaning & Disinfection

I hope you and your family are well. With the national lock down/distancing orders in place, fear, born out of ignorance has a firm grip on many of us. I have received several calls recently regarding our disinfection services and the disinfection of work places or offices in general. Most believe this must be some elaborate procedure using hazmat suits, respirators, and fogging devices. It is not!

I can only surmise that most imagine the sterilization techniques used for clean rooms or health care facilities and think that is what must be done. This is a very expensive, elaborate 6 step process, beginning with a site visit/assessment, a pre-disinfection, basic clean, forensic clean, post disinfectant spray, and finally a post-site inspection/certification. This should only be utilized if necessary and it is over kill for most of us. A Good Proper Cleaning is the First Step

There is no substitute for cleaning. FYI… cleaning deactivates the virus by breaking up its outer protein layer.
Although it is logical to think steam cleaning may be necessary. There is nothing to be gained with this method and in the commercial setting (carpeted floors) you will make matters worse! Utilize cleaning systems established for commercial carpet and that type of installation. Steam cleaning is only effective (cleaning only) with a residential (padded) installation.

Disinfection is the Second Step

here are many products available for this and they are effective as long as you follow the directions on the label. The American Chemical Society noted this… dwell times between 30 seconds and 10 minutes are printed on the label of the product you use. Advanced Cleaning Systems uses the Lysol brand professional spray. This quaternary ammonium compound is both safe and effective for disinfection. It must dwell for 10 minutes after cleaning.

That’s it, two steps, nothing elaborate or expensive. It may come as a surprise to most, but as of this writing there is no set protocols in place for eliminating Covid-19. At this time you should not be a victim of fear, but remember just simple cleaning (janitorial services if needed) followed by a post disinfectant spray of surfaces is all that is recommended. There is no substitute for cleaning!
