The Most Important Part of Carpet Cleaning: Extraction.
July 7, 2020

A carpet cleaner’s main task is to remove all the residues and dirt, minimize the moisture and maximize extraction! A carpet that is wet for more than 8 hours tells you that extraction was poor, residues and dirt remain.

  1. Residues are only in the carpet face fibers. If they haven’t been removed completely. Dirt will quickly re-deposit and “stick” to this spot. This will happen in a couple of weeks and is a common occurrence whenever you have poor cleaning.Dirt will quickly re-deposit and “stick” to this spot. This will happen in a couple of weeks and is a common occurrence when poor cleaning is performed.

Several years ago, carpet cleaning technology recognized this ineffectiveness and introduced encapsulation cleaning for commercial installations. This improvement is what Advanced Cleaning System (ACS) uses on commercial installations. Using our knowledge and experience, ACS has added to this basic encap solution and created a deep cleaning system for carpets with commercial installations.

Encapsulation is a dual cleaning attack, not only does this method clean exceptionally well, but any oils, sugars, or dirt and dust left behind (residues) will be captured by the remaining solution which dries as a crystal (all residues encapsulated). You don’t see these tiny structures, but your janitorial crew’s normal vacuuming pick up those crystals, and your carpet just get a little bit better looking…for a long time!

  1. When the spill is so large (i.e. can of soda, urine deposits, etc.) that the spill soaks through the carpet facing AND into the backing. These spills will resurface or “:wick back” after cleaning. This can take just days or maybe months, depending on how large a spill you had.

Solving this wicking problem is a bit more difficult. In order to remove all the spill from the backing (and pad, residential installs), concentrated vacuum extraction is needed.

Our Solution

Years ago we introduced Deep Pad Extraction (DPE) to our residential installations. The pictures demonstrate this process.

Essentially we just rinse the spot or area. We pour gallons of water onto the problem (a gallon at a time, 8-10 times). Each time we extract with a piece of equipment designed to remove water from the padding.

Truck mount equipment (we do steam cleaning on residential installations) delivers the power necessary for effective extraction. We tried DPE on commercial
installations as well and got the same tremendous results,
100% effective!

DPE is labor intensive and terribly inefficient for regular cleaning, but it is effective. Used in this manner, is the only time I recommend vacuum extraction on commercial installations. The backing is rinsed free of the spill, no reappearing spots!

If spots come back, so do we — free!
